In-kind donations and cards for the family of Heath Gumm can be delivered to the substation 4201 E, 72nd Ave, Commerce City, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week, or to the headquarters office, 332 N. 19th Ave., Brighton, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. .

An Adams County sheriff's deputy died Jan. 24 after a shooting near Skyview High School. Deputies continue to look for two more suspects.

It happened in the 8800 block of Dawson Street  (bewteen I-25 and Downing Street and west of Skyview High School) shortly before 7 p.m.

Senior deputy Amanda Overson said deputies responded to a reported assault in the 8700 block of Dawson Street. One suspect -- the one later arrested – fled the area. Deputies found him behind a house. Overton said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the deputy, later identified as 32-year-old Heath Gumm, in the chest. Gumm died at Denver Health Medical Center.

The search continued Jan. 25 for two more suspects. Overtson said both may be armed. They are either light-skinned black males or dark-skinned Hispanics. They are clad in black clothing.

A large police presence remained in the area Jan. 25. More than a dozen area schools closed their doors Jan. 25 because of the ongoing activity. A tweet from the Adams County Sheriff's Office told people to stay in their homes and to stay away from windows.

The Thornton campus of Regis University was on lockdown for about a half-hour because of the shooting. Authorities lifted the lockdown shortly before 10 p.m.

Other law-enforcement agencies and first responders are tweeting their support. Shortly before 10:30 p.m., a law-enforcement procession with representatives from Denver, Lakewood and Aurora for the slain deputy formed outside Denver Health Medical Center. Because of the procession to take the deputy's body back to Brighton, areas of unincorporated Adams County – and other counties in the metropolitan area – were on accident alert.

Overton said anyone with information should call 720-322-1313.

This is the second shooting incident involving a sheriff's deputy in the last month in the metropolitan area. A Douglas County deputy died New Year's Eve during a domestic disturbance in Highlands Ranch.

We'll have updates later.
