BRIGHTON — The man convicted of killing a Commerce City jewelry store owner in 2012 will serve life in prison plus 32 years without parole, a judge ordered on Friday, April 11.
Anton Valdez, 23, was sentenced April 11 in Adams County District Court after a jury convicted him Wednesday, April 9, of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and conspiracy in the death of Bernardo Saenz, who was fatally shot May 17, 2012, during a robbery of La Joyeria jewelry store, 5908 E. 64th Ave. in Commerce City.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Saenz was shot four times at close range when he came from a back room in the store after he heard a glass jewelry case being broken.
Valdez was convicted as charged with first-degree murder after deliberation, first-degree felony murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.
