FORT LUPTON – If you have lived in Fort Lupton for quite some time, you may very well know the name Lorraine Bachicha.
You may also know that Lorraine needs your help and prayers.
Lorraine, whose husband, Pino, started the Metro Wrestling League in Fort Lupton 42 years ago for kids ages 4-14, has done her great fair share of work in the community. She worked at the elementary and middle schools and retired from the Fort Lupton Police Department after nearly 27 years of service – not to mention all the volunteer work she had done for her local church.
Every one who knows her knew that she loved volunteering and always took the opportunity to do so.
“She is a person who always gave,” Lorraine’s son, Lenny Bachicha, said. “She never thought of herself and always valued other people more than herself. She is the type of person where if a person didn’t have something, she did all she could do to make sure they had it.”
Unfortunately, there has been a roadblock in the way that has prohibited volunteering in her community. About two years ago, Lorraine was diagnosed with cancer and has been battling tough every since. During her time battling, she has racked up extensive medical bills and needs some assistance.
With help from the Kelly Martinez Cancer Fund, friends and families they have collectively established the “Have-A-Heart Softball Tournament,” an attempt to raise money for Lorraine. The three-day softball tournament will begin Sept. 23 and conclude Sept. 25. It will be at Pearson Park in Fort Lupton.
The winning team of the tournament will receive a plaque and championship T-shirts. Although there is only one winner on paper, everyone who participates is a winner, donating their time and money to a helpful cause.
“I know a lot of people in this community, and the people that know or knew my mom have no problem participating in this tournament,” Lenny Bachicha said. “People who know her know that she has had a lot of surgeries and they want to help. Lorraine has never asked people for help, and she really isn’t asking now, even with her battle with cancer. This is an opportunity to give a person something that would have never asked for anything in return.”
Late entries can contact Lenny Bachicha directly at 303-717-9676 to see if there are any spots left. The fee is $250 per team.
