WESTMINSTER — Officials from Adams and Broomfield counties showed their support for Court Appointed Special Advocates and Pinwheels for Prevention March 15 at the Orchard Town Center.
Adams County Commissioners Erik Hansen and Eva Henry, along with Broomfield Mayor Pat Quinn, signed a regional proclamation dedicating April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. The cities of Brighton, Broomfield, Commerce City and Westminster have also signed proclamations for CASA.
Vince Phelps, 17th Judicial District Chief Judge, said all of the judges who hear child abuse cases greatly value the services CASA and its volunteers provide. Phelps said many of the relationships formed by CASA volunteers and the children they work with last a long time.
“We never have enough CASA volunteers. We always have room for some more,” he said.
Following the proclamation, children and volunteers with CASA were able to plant a pinwheel garden as part of the Pinwheels for Prevention’s national campaign.
