Chase puts Denver man behind bars

COMMERCE CITY ― A 26-year-old Denver man is in jail after officers said he led them on a chase in Commerce City Saturday. His name hasn't been released.

It started around 1 p.m. near East 72nd Avenue and Monaco Street. Lt. Dennis Moon with the Commerce City Police Department said an officer tried to stop a suspect who made threats against another motorist.

At first, the driver pulled over. But Moon said the driver then took off and soon collided with aanother car 10 blocks away. The driver of the second car was not hurt, but the suspect's car also his a fence on the southeast corner of East 62nd Avenue and Monaco. The dirver and his passenger, a 19-year-old man from Commerce City, ran.

Moon said poloice arrested the passenger a short distance from the collisions. Officers found the driver hiding on the roof of a garage in the 6000 block of Gifford Drive. Moon said the suspect was driving a stolen car.


Both the driver and his passenger went to a local hospital for minor injuries. The driver was in the Adams County Detention Facility Saturday night. Moon said the man could face charges of eluding and motor vehicle theft.
