Groups of students in local school art classes and after-school programs created fall-themed backdrops as part of an annual contest sponsored by the city. Recreation center staff and members of Commerce City’s Cultural Council voted for their favorite entries, which were announced at Monday’s City Council meeting.
Nine area schools participated in the contest, representing:
  n    Alsup Elementary art program
  n    Central Elementary after-school program
  n    Dupont Elementary art program
  n    Monaco Elementary art program
n    Rose Hill Elementary after-school program
n    Community Leadership Academy art program
  n    Thimmig Elementary art program
  n    Landmark Academy art program
n    Belle Creek Charter School art program.
The first-place canvas was painted by students in Alsup Elementary’s art program. Second place went to students in the art program at Monaco Elementary School. Winners received a pizza party for all the artists and a monetary donation to their program.
