COMMERCE CITY -- One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after a two-car crash near Denver International Airport.
No names have been released. It happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in the 10000 block of Tower Road.
Commerce City spokeswoman Michelle Halstead said the conditions of the two people in the hospital are not known.
Details have not been released. Photographer John Carr said it appeared to be a high-speed, head-on crash. Debris is spread over a wide area.
Police closed Tower Road from 104th to 88th avenues, a closure that may remain in effect for the afternoon rush hour. The detour for northbound drivers is west on 88th Avenue to Buckley road/96th Avenue, then north on Chambers to 104th Avenue and back east. The alternate route for southbound drivers is to take 104th Avenue west to Chambers Road, then south to 96th Avenue, then back to Tower Road. In addition, the ramp from E-470 to 96th Avenue is closed.
