COMMERCE CITY -- Two children were returned to their parents Sunday night after they were taken from the family vehicle.
It happened around 7:45 p.m. at the Wal-Mart store near East 60th Avenue and Dahlia Street. Commerce City police officer Chris Dickey said the parents, who have not been identified, were with their youngsters in a 2012 Dodge Ram truck. While the mother was inside the Wal-Mart, the father drove to a liquor store in the 6000 block of Parkway Drive. While he was inside, a suspect got into the truck and left with the two youngsters inside. Dickey said the truck was running and unlocked at the time of the theft.
An hour later, Dickey said someone told authorities the truck was at a specific location in Adams County -- the exact location isn't known -- and that the children were with the vehicle and were OK. Officers found the vehicle and the kids.
Police continued their investigation. Dickey said a description of the suspect is not available because the investigation was continuing.
"The Commerce City Police Department would like to remind parents not to leave children unattended in vehicles, especially when they are running," Dickey said.
