Henderson man allegedly assaulted officer

Police charged a Henderson man with first degree assault on a police officer in connection with an incident in which officials placed J.W. Thimmig Elementary School on lockout Friday, March 2.

Officers took Rueben Alba, 45, into custody without incident shortly before 1 p.m. in the 11200 block of River Run Parkway, according to a Commerce City press release. During a search of the residence, authorities found threats of numerous explosive devices. Alba fired one shot when officers arrived, according to the press release.

Students at the school were safe, according to a tweet from officials at School District 27J, which covers Brighton, the Reunion neighborhood, and some of Thornton. Authorities lifted the lockout shortly after 3 p.m. School buses and dismissal times were the same. Authorities also sent out a reverse 911 call to residents asking them to stay inside.
