Inadequate voter?

-A A +A

Editor,
As I read the letters, both pro and con, regarding the 27J mill levy override, I couldn’t help feeling inadequate regarding my inferior knowledge of the subject compared to a person who is just another parent. I figured it must be because he is a doctor and intellectually superior that he would be so well informed on all the facts revealed in his letter.
Now I know why Dr. Blunck is so well informed, but only after seeing his name coincidentally mentioned in another article. Dr. Blunck is not just another  parent of a Brighton High School student as he would lead us to believe as the signatory of his letter to the editor. He’s the superintendent of 27J schools and has a career of two decades in public education. Is it any surprise that he’s stumping for a tax increase?
I’ve been suspicious all along that ordinary parents who are not educators by profession and are otherwise detached from paychecks emanating from education tax dollars would be throwing themselves before the school board begging for this mill levy override.
Seldom is there an election period when the taxpaying citizen is not confronted by another emotional plea for more money for education. And, of course, it’s always “just about the children” in order to stir our psyche, since we always seem to have our bags packed for the guilt trip of ignoring our children’s educational needs.
Sorry Dr. Blunck. Your letter to the editor certainly appears to be intentionally misleading, and does not sway me from voting against this 3D issue. In fact, I’m more opposed than before seeing your letter, since once again it looks like the education bureaucracy is the driving force behind it.
Another blow to openness and transparency.

Editor’s note: State law prohibits Blunck and all school district employees from commenting on the mill levy override election while on the school district payroll. His letter to the editor was written as a private citizen.
