Reunion resident Joni Fields remembers the day she just happened upon the perfect location to open a children’s clothing boutique.
“I was walking through downtown Brighton on my way to look at a different spot, and I walked past this spot,” Fields said of the formerly vacant building at 121 N. Main St.
And she knew it was meant to be when she noticed the store had eight small windows across the top of the building: one to fit every letter of the name of her store, Joonbugz.
“The name fit perfectly up there, and I just fell in love with this store,” she said. “It just all came together. This is my dream come true – my own boutique in a great little town.”
The store opened Friday. Fields and her mother, Arlene, say they look forward to meeting area residents and helping them find just the right tutu, pair of overalls, dress or toy for the special child in their life.
“My mom and I, we both just love people,” Fields said. “We want to strive to give people great quality, great customer service and a friendly atmosphere.”
Fields worked as a personal shopper at Saks Fifth Avenue in the Cherry Creek Mall. When the store closed this winter, she said she began thinking again about her dream of opening a children’s store.
“I had been thinking about this for three years,” she said. “I looked into it before. Timing is everything. I didn’t find the right place.”
She considered several locations but knew she was home when she fell in love with downtown Brighton.
“I feel like this is an up-and-coming area,” Fields said. “This could be the new Wash Park. And everyone here has been so wonderful and so welcoming.”
Joonbugz offers new and nearly new children’s clothing in sizes newborn through children’s size 10.
“We have brand name clothes like Ralph Lauren, Janie and Jack and Gap,” she said.
The store also features accessories made by Brighton residents, as well as books and new toys.
Fields plans to hold events in the future at the store, including teas and readings by a fairy princess. Event listings are on the store’s website, www.joonbugz.com.
“I have done a lot of businesses for other people in the past,” Fields said. “I know how to do it. I’ve always loved children’s clothing, and I love children. There was really a great need for a children’s boutique in Brighton.”
