Lawrence Melvin Schoen

    U.S. veteran Lawrence Melvin Schoen was called home to be with the Lord Jan. 16, 2012.
    He was born July 19, 1928, in Cawker City, Kan., to Louie E. Schoen and Olga Huldah Lear Schoen.
    Family members left behind to learn to live without his presence are his wife, Veryl M. Schoen; daughters, Kathy Baum, of Fort Lupton, Cindy Platt and husband, Alan, of Bailey; grandsons, Chris Baum, and wife, Kim, of Brighton, Eric Baum, of Fort Lupton; great grandchildren, Amber, Benson, Sarah and Austin Baum; brother, Meryl Schoen, and wife, Betty, of Downs, Kan.; sisters, Lorine Thrash, of Wichita, Kan., and Arlene Smith, of Downs; sister-in-law Marge Underhill; and several nieces and nephews.

    Preceding him in death are his parents; his mother -in-law; father-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a great nephew.
    Lawrence moved from Kansas to Denver in 1955 and went back to Beloit, Kan., to marry the former Veryl Underhill in 1956. Immediately after the wedding, he brought Veryl to Denver. She was on her honeymoon for 55 years.
    Lawrence worked for Black and White Auto Shop from 1955 to 1993 when he retired. They purchased a small farm outside of Fort Lupton in 1969 and resided there until his passing.
    Visitation and the funeral were Jan. 20 at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Lawrence’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado, 455 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203, or to a charity of choice.
