Parade out, in with fair opening ceremony

BRIGHTON — There won’t be an Adams County Fair parade this summer.
That was the word on the fair’s Facebook page Feb.8. Instead, the fair will begin with an opening ceremony that is in the planning stages.
The fair cited a drop in the number of participants and spectators as the reason to discontinue the parade.
“The parade was a long standing tradition of the fair,” the post said. “Any time changes are made to shift focus from one event to the next, we take a great deal of time and care in making those decisions. We do understand the disappointment some will feel in not having the parade and appreciate your feelings. If some day it makes sense to have the parade again, we will certainly look at doing so.”
