-A A +A

 Commerce City police are investigating a series of thefts from vehicles and auto thefts from open garages.

The targeted areas are The Dunes, River Run, High Point, Fronterra and Eagle Creek.

Police say there are male and female suspects involved. They have been seen in these areas between midnight and 3 a.m. Detectives think the suspects are looking for unlocked vehicles and cars that have money or other loose items, such as GPS units, I-Pods, laptop computers, credit cards, other documents, wallets and vehicle keys. The suspects get in through open garages and steal cars or other items.

Police suggest that residents close and lock garage, overhead and side doors and to keep the garage closed, even if you are in the back yard.

Other suggestions:

• If you see your neighbor's garage door open, make them aware;

• Remove vehicle and home keys from your vehicle;

• Lock your vehicle; and

• Do not leave loose items, such as electronics, money, purses and wallets in your vehicles.

Call 911 immediately if you see suspicious vehicles or people in your neighborhood. If possible, provide a description. Police also say not to contact or detain anyone.
