Political campaign season is in full swing and that means plenty of political advertisements. Do you think they still serve a purpose or have you tuned them out?
The truth is I tend to use my mute button when it comes to political ads. They are an annoyance that typically; stretches the truth if not outright lie to cast one side or the other in a bad light.
Political ads avoid discussion of real issues in favor of divisive issues to incite voters to react in a predictable manner. If the only goal is to assure one candidate is liked less that another, I guess they work. Unfortunately, elections are not supposed to be popularity contests, but rather an opportunity to choose candidates who will serve in accord with a community and its needs not just on their own personal agendas.
