Rose Sandoval, 89, of Brighton, passed away Feb. 17, 2013, at her home. Born March 5, 1923, in Raton, N.M. to Onifer and Julia (Olivas) Fernandez, she attended schools in Brighton and married Joaquin Sandoval on Sept. 14, 1953, in Brighton.
Rose lived the majority of her life in Brighton where she was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. First and foremost she loved the Lord and loved her bible studies. She loved her family. Rose was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved the opportunities she had to provide nourishment and love for her family. She enjoyed attending all the social and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed taking trips “up the hill,” dancing and playing Mexican Bingo at the Brighton Village. Rose also enjoyed watching Shirley Temple movies with anyone who would share the time with her.
Rose is survived by her children, Debbie Fritz, of Aurora, Gayleen Sandoval and Pat (Joni) Sandoval, both of Brighton; sisters, Margaret Morales, of Denver, and Ida Meza, of Thornton; brother, Lloyd Fernandez, of Thornton; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joaquin Sandoval, in 2006; sons, Artie Atencio, in 1974, and James Atencio, in 2009; and her daughter, Lorraine Bachicha, in 2012.
Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial followed Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery.
