BRIGHTON — Parents hoping to pick and choose which schools their children attend in School District 27J will face limited open enrollment options for the 2014-15 school year.
School District 27J announced last week that not all schools will be open to choice when the open enrollment window opens on Jan. 6 due to anticipated seat shortages.
“We are proud to call ourselves a district of choice for our students and their families,” said 27J Superintendent of Schools Dr. Chris Fiedler. “Unfortunately, the challenges caused by our growing enrollment means that we need to make difficult decisions in how we structure our enrollment process.”
The following schools are closed to open enrollment for the 2014-15 school year, and will only consider applications under the following conditions:
• Brighton High School: Non-resident applications: currently attending students who will be a junior or senior in the 2014-25 school year. Resident students on a space available basis.
• Prairie View High School: Non-resident applications: currently attending students who will be a junior or senior in the 2014-2015 school year. Resident students on a space available basis.
• Prairie View Middle School: No non-resident applications. Resident student applications will be considered, space available, according to established priorities.
• Turnberry Elementary School: Only applications for resident and non-resident students who currently attend Turnberry and who will be in the fifth grade for the 2014-2015 school year, and their siblings will be considered.
All other School District 27J schools are accepting open enrollment applications from resident and out-of-district students.
If a family wishes to enroll their student in their designated attendance area school, there is no need to complete the Open Enrollment Application form, just contact the school office to register. District charter schools should be contacted directly for information about their open enrollment process.
Applications for open enrollment will be accepted through Feb. 28. A decision will be made by March 7, and parents will be notified of the determination. Applications will be addressed on a space available, first come, first served basis and in accordance with School District 27J regulations and the conditions specified above.
Applications for open enrollment can be found at www.sd27j.org and must be submitted to the Educational Services Center, 18551 East 160th Avenue, Brighton, 80601. Applications may be completed using the interactive form online. If completed online, forms must be saved on your computer and then may be emailed to email@example.com. Application forms may also be submitted by fax to 303-655-2805. All applications must be signed to be considered.
