Scores of friends and family members of Shane Hale gathered at the Prairie View High School on Sunday, Aug. 25, to remember the 19-year-old by holding a candlelight vigil. On Aug. 25, 2012, Hale was waiting for a friend to pick him up at the corner of East 120th Avenue and Peoria Street when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The impact of the collision threw Hale into a ditch alongside the roadway. He was discovered some time later by a passing cyclist. Hale was flown to a Denver area trauma center where he died two days later. To date the driver of the vehicle has not been found. Friends and family members have vowed to hold regular vigils to keep Hale’s memory alive and to appeal anyone with information on the accident to come forward.
