State 5A wrestling: Eagles put five in the quarterfinals

DENVER – By the time the opening round of the state 5A wrestling tournament wrapped up at Pepsi Center Feb. 16, five Adams City wrestlers had moved into the quarterfinal rounds.

Noah Vigil (113 pounds) earned a 11-2, major decision win over Aiden Quinn of Monarch. He faces Adrian Marquez of Castle View next. At 138 pounds, Joshua Deaguero pinned Dakota Key of Legacy in 5:03 of their first-round match. Deaguero gets Arvada West's Estevan Maldonado in the quarterfinals.

At 152 pounds, Gavin Deaguero of the Eagles turned back Brian Hodes of Regis Jesuit 9-3 in the opening round. Deaguero takes on top-seeded GAbriel Dinette of Lakewood in the next round. At 160 pounds, Jack Armijo defeated Earl Cameron Manzanares of Chatfield 6-5 in the first round. Armijo draws the top seed in the weight class, Pomona's Jason Romero, in the quarterfinals. At 170 pounds, Christian Rowell pinned Ryan Hanson of Highlands Ranch in 2:53 of their bout., Rowell takes on Drian Hayes of Legacy in the quarters.

Arnulfo Alvarado (285), Blake Reichel (120), Nicholas Gonzales (126)and Marques Salazar (145) lost their first-round matches. They are alive in the consolation brackets.

The quarterfinal round begins at 12:45 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17. The semifinals start at 7:15 p.m.
