COMMERCE CITY — Stuart Middle School has a new principal for the first time since opening in 2009.
Officials at School District 27J announced Feb. 24 that Principal Martin Pearson submitted his resignation on Friday, Feb. 21.
Stuart Middle School Assistant Principal Cindy Price is serving as interim principal through the remainder of the school year, according to a letter from District 27J Superintendent Dr. Chris Fielder to Stuart Middle School parents and guardians announcing Pearson’s resignation.
Additionally, Price “will be supported by Kelly Corbett, Chief Academic Officer, Will Pierce, Director of Student Achievement, and members of our Student Achievement team,” Dr. Fiedler wrote in the letter.
Stuart staff members were notified of Pearson’s resignation after classes Feb. 21 and students were informed of the change during first period classes Feb. 24, according to Fiedler.
A search will be conducted this spring to select a new principal for the 2014-15 school year.
While a district spokesman would not comment further on Pearson’s departure, Fiedler noted in his letter that he supports Pearson and his decision to resign.
Pearson was the first principal in Stuart Middle School’s history, serving in that role since the school first opened its doors to students in August 2009.
