Suncor wins Community Partner honor from Metro North Chamber

WESTMINSTER — Suncor Energy was among the honorees Jan. 24 at the Metro North Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Gala & Business Awards at the Westminster Westin Hotel.


Vice President of Refining John Gallagher and Lisha Burnett, communications and stakeholder relations manager for Suncor, accepted the Outstanding Community Partner of the Year honor on behalf of the company.

Hailed by the chamber as “a true community partner,” Suncor was recognized for a long list of organizations it works with and supports, including the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver, American Red Cross, Junior Achievement, Mile High United Way, Denver’s Road Home, Environmental Learning for Kids and others. 

The award recognizes the ongoing support and dedication Suncor Energy has provided to the Metro North Chamber and the community.

In other honors:

• Small Business Person of the Year – Rusty Reynolds, vice president-operations, Colorado Barricade, was recognized for his leadership, fortitude and commitment to business in the face of adversity. 

• Leadership Person of the Year – Brian Poggenklass, chief probation officer, city of Westminster, was recognized for his contribution to the Metro North Chamber Leadership Program.

• Business Person of the Year – Preston Gibson, area manager for community and local government affairs, Xcel Energy, has been active with the Metro North Chamber for three years, and he has given his time and energy extensively as a board member, as a member of the Business & Government Affairs Committee, as a Development Council Member.
