Track: Adams City's Barrera claims pair of top-five finishes at EMAC meet

AURORA -- Adams City's Carlos Barrera was fourth in the 200-meter dash (45.77 seconds) and fifth in the 100-meter dash at the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference league track-and-field meet at Aurora Public Schools Stadium. Barrera's time was 11.57 seconds.

Barrera has the 26th-fastest time in the state at 200 meters. The top 18 qualify for the state meet next week.

Alex Marquez, Cesar Salazar, Blake McClure and Jacob Marquez ran the 4-by-100-meter relay in a time of 47.04, which was good for eighth place.

On the girls side, the top individual finisher was Selena figueroa. She finished ninth in the long jump at 13 feet 7 inches. The Eagles' 800-meter sprint medley relay team (Daubranai Gonzales, Madison Apple, Aspen Amador and Michelle DeLaCruz) was eighth in a time of 2:24.35. The 4-by-400-meter team (Amador, Melanie Armendariz, Haley Cookson and Bianca Estrada) finished eighth in a time of 5:02.85, a season best).

Adams City's boys team was ninth, and the girls team took 10th.
