COMMERCE CITY -- Police arrested three people -- two men and women -- early Monday morning after police heard shots and a train collided with a car.
It started around 11:30 p.m. Sunday when police heard shots near 83rd Avenue and Rosemary Street. Officer Christian Rasmussen said when officers arrived, they saw a black Toyota sedan leave the area.
Police said the driver of the Toyota tried to drive over the railroad tracks in the 8400 block of state Highway 2. Rasmussen said the car wound up high-centered on the tracks, and its occupants fled the area on foot. Shortly after that, a Burlington Northern train struck the unoccupied car. No one was injured.
Police later arrested the three adults. No names were released. Rasmussen said the three were shooting near a soccer field just west of Gala Gardens. Officers found the pistol -- a 9-mm handgun -- in a nearby ditch.
Police have not found any victims. Their investigation was continuing.
