COMMERCE CITY – Police in Commerce City and Northglenn need help finding a man who may have been trying to lure school-aged children into his car.
The incidents happened twice in the span of five days. The Commerce City case happened around 7:30 a.m., Oct. 17, in the 7100 block of Birch Street. Lt. Chuck Saunier said a man in an older, faded purple-and-gray passenger van -- similar to a 1999 Dodge Caravan -- pulled up next to a 13-year-old girl who was walking to school. The driver, described as a Hispanic male, said to the child in English with a Spanish accident, "Do you want a ride?"
When the girl said, “No”, the male said in a calm voice, “Get in the car.” The girl ran to the school, and the male in the car drove northbound on Birch Street.
The Northglenn case happened around 3:20 p.m., Oct. 20, in the 10700 block of Claire Lane. Northglenn police said a 10-year-old male was walking home from school when a Hispanic male driving a small, black two-door compact car pulled up next to him, opened the car door and asked the boy to get into the car. The boy became scared and ran home.
The suspect is a Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s, average to thin build and has dark hair. In each incident, the clothing was different. In the Commerce City case he was last seen wearing a gray shirt. In Northglenn’s case, he was last seen wearing a gray beanie, green tank top and black pants.
