Commerce City resident and U.S. Army veteran James Vine received a free landscaping makeover for the home he shares with wife Stephany Vine.

The Vines won a Landscaping for VETS giveaway.

Vine did four tours in Iraq and served in the U.S. Army for 23 years as a staff sergeant. He retired in 2011. His wife nominated him for the award.

“This isn’t about planting a few trees, shrubs or adding some grass or rock,” said Jason Sakry,co-founder of Landscaping for VETS, in a news release, “If they want a new deck, a built-in barbecue, a fire pit, they’re going to get whatever fits their wants and needs with the space they have.”

Landscaping for VETS is a Castle Rock/Larkspur-based company that received more than 50 nominations in the contest. All nominees were required to have served on active military duty and live in Colorado.

“Our hope is to create a beautiful outdoor environment for our winning vet and bless them with the yard of their dreams so they can enjoy it for years to come with their family and friends,” Sakry said in the release.
