  • Cordova celebrates 100th birthday

    Benjamin Cordova celebrated his 100th birthday April 26.

        He was born April 26, 1909, in Wagon Mound, Mexico. Ben and his late wife, Alice, had six children, Aberdella, Naomi, Helen, Aaron, Eddie and late son, Danny. Extended family includes 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. The family moved to Adams City in 1943. A hard-working man for all of his life, Ben retired from Local Union 720 in 1974.

        Antoinette Sandoval and Austreberto Olivas, of Brighton, welcome a son, Gabriel Isaiah Olivas.

        Gabriel was born March 2, 2009, at Platte Valley Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 15 ½ ounces and measured 22 inches.

        Grandparents are Rosa Salgado and Barbara Zesati and Allen Sandoval.

        Gabriel is the couple’s first child.

        Justin and Kristall James welcome a daughter, Kailley James.

        Kailley was born Feb. 8, 2009, at Platte Valley Medical Center. She weighed 7 pounds and measured 19 ¾ inches.

        Grandparents are Virginia Smith and Debbie and David James, all of Fort Lupton. Great-grandparent is John Frye, also of Fort Lupton.

        She has an older brother, Justin, 2.

    Melendez-Pacheco

        Anahi Pacheco and Emilio Melendez, of Dacono, announce the birth of their daughter, Yareli Melendez Pacheco.

        Yareli was born March 6, 2009, at Platte Valley Medical Center. She weighed 7 pounds and measured 19 inches.

        Yareli’s grandparents are Irma and Leo Pacheco, of Dacono, Rosa Lora, of Mexico, and Emiliano Melendez.

        Yareli joins Jullye at home.

  • Financing in place for government center

    Adams County is one step closer to its planned government center this week as financing needed for the center’s construction was successfully raised.

        The new government center will be built at 124th Avenue and Sable Boulevard in Brighton. More than $94 million was obtained for this capital improvement from a sale-leaseback transaction. The net interest cost of the transaction was 4.85 percent.

        Jessica Zaragoza and Jaime Morfin are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Josiah Zaragoza-Dominguez.

        Josiah was born Dec. 28, 2008, at Platte Valley Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and measured 20 1/2 inches.

        Josiah’s grandparents are Felipe Zaragoza, Cecilia Dominguez, Jesus Morfin and Angelica Ramirez.

  • Egger-Callaway wed

    Elizabeth Ann Egger and Shaun Matthew Callaway were married Oct. 18, 2008, at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Greeley. A reception followed at Aims Corporate Education Center. 

        Egger is the daughter of Rick and Frances Egger, of Herington, Kan.  She graduated from Herington High School in 1998 and she is a graduate of Emporia State University and the University of Wyoming.  She is an accountant in Denver.

        Gabriella Riquelme and Javier Cruz, announce the birth of their son, Javier Felipe Cruz Riquelme.

        Javier was born Nov. 15, 2008, at Platte Valley Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

        Javier’s grandparents are Felipe Riquelme Alarcon, Paula Diaz Manjarrez, Armando Vera Rubio, and Maria De Los Delores Perez.

        Javier joins siblings Yahir, 6, and Keyren, 8, at home.

    Brandy Machuca-Salazar, and Anthony Salazar, of Commerce City, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Josie Angela Machuca-Salazar.

    Josie was born Oct. 27, 2008, at Platte Valley Medical Center. She weighed 6 pounds, 7 ½ ounces, and measured 18 ¼ inches.

    Josie’s grandparents are Karen and Gilbert Machuca, of Hammond, Indiana, and Dolores and Robert Salazar, of Commerce City.

    Josie joins brothers, Michael, 12, and Xavier, 10, at home.
