BRIGHTON — Prairie View’s Serena Bruin wants to be a marine biologist or an athletic trainer.
She thinks the best place to achieve those goals is to attend Oregon State University — and play some NCAA Division I volleyball along the way.
Bruin signed her letter of intent Nov. 10, in the school library.
Prairie View High School Student Government Association representatives provided breakfast Nov. 11 for emergency first responders that serve the Prairie View community. Members of the Brighton and Commerce City police departments, Brighton Fire Rescue District firefighters and Platte Valley Ambulance Service paramedics were invited to visit the school for a free breakfast. Students wanted to treat first responders to breakfast as a way to show gratitude for their service.
Prairie View’s Alexx McMillan was the lone ThunderHawk runner to earn first-team, all-Eastern Metro Athletic Conference honors this season.
Morgan Taylor, Bethani Hartman, Garrett Trudell and Xavier Hunt were second-team winners for the T-Hawks.

DENVER — The Regional Transportation District received the first two commuter rail cars for the North Metro Rail Line last week. Arriving from Hyundai Rotem’s Philadelphia factory, these two vehicles were delivered by freight train to RTD’s commuter rail maintenance facility.
AURORA — Transportation officials announced last week that rates will go up for toll road E-470, effective the first of next year.
E-470 mainline toll rates will increase 10 cents, and ramp tolls will increase 5 cents. The rate increases apply to both ExpressToll and License Plate Toll. E-470 customers who pay their tolls using ExpressToll transponders will continue to pay about 20 percent less than customers billed through License Plate Toll.
Former Brighton pitcher James Smith signed to play baseball at NCAA Division I University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2017.
Smith, who has been pitching at Trinidad State Junior College, started 13 games for the Trojans last spring, finishing the year with a 3-5 record.
