Raymond J. Bergstrom, 85, of Fort Lupton, passed away May 7, 2013, at his home. He was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Fort Lupton to Joseph and Olga (Fischer) Bergstrom. He attended schools in Keenesburg and graduated in 1945. Ray later married Deloris Schmidt on Dec. 14, 1952, in Hudson.

BRIGHTON — The Commerce City police officer accused of fatally shooting an unrestrained dog in November 2012 pleaded not guilty May 6 in Adams City District Court.
    Robert Price, who faces felony charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, is set to face trial Sept. 30 in connection with the Nov. 24, 2012, shooting of Chloe, a pit bull who was found unrestrained in the 9600 block of Nucla Street.
    In video of the incident captured by a neighbor, Price is seen firing his service weapon multiple times at Chloe after the dog was shocked with a Taser after an animal control officer was unable to control the dog with a catch pole.

BRIGHTON — Officials from Brighton 27J School District honored the district’s 2012-13 retirees during its annual retirement recognition dinner May 7 at Heritage Todd Creek Golf Course.
    This year’s 16 district retirees share a combined 211 years of service to the district and an average of 16 years of individual service. Each retiree was recognized with a speech from their district supervisor or co-worker and presented a special gift by 27J Board of Education members.

    The Veterans of Foreign Wars Brighton Post 2841 will present a golf tournament Monday, June 10, at Todd Creek Golf Club, 8455 Heritage Drive in Thornton.
