Brighton police identified the victim as 34-year-old Antonio Torres in a press statement. Police did not release the name of the individual who is in custody. Charges are pending.

Police think the stabbing may have been the result of a fight at a party in a nearby residence, according to the press statement. The incident happened around 1 a.m. Police said they found Torres bleeding from several stab wounds. An ambulance took Torres to an area hospital, where he died about three hours later.

Residents with information about the incident can contact police at 303-655-2300.

It’s not the first time a man has been stabbed and killed at Eastgate on a holiday. Francisco Javier Moran, 22, was killed on Thanksgiving 2012 at the mobile home park at 3060 E. Bridge St. Moran identified his assailant, Hector Alvarez Martinon, before he lost consciousness, according to police. He was stabbed 64 times in the head with a screw driver, according to information presented at his trial.

Alvarez Martinon was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
