Commerce City gymnasts wrapped up a successful season at the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics state championships Aug. 3 and 4. Twenty-five of the 36 program gymnasts competed in the state meet.

“The Commerce City gymnastics team practices year round in order to display their talents during the summer competition season,” said Misty Gowdy, gymnastics coordinator for the city’s parks and recreation department. “It’s so great to see their hard work pay off.”

Gymnast Jocelyn Erickson took the title of “Best Level Four Gymnast” in the CARA Gymnastics League with an all-around score of 37.4. Erickson has been part of the city’s program for two years. This was her first year on the team.

“In my 15 years working in the gymnastics program, I have not witnessed an individual earning an all-around score of 37.4,” added Gowdy. “The score is a true testament to Jocelyn’s talent and the dedication of our instructors.”
