Fire breaks out at Waste Management plant

At midafternoon July 17, the South Adams County Fire Department was working to control a fire at the Waste Management plant in the 6100 of Brighton Road.

The lastest update, by way of Facebook, said crews cooled down several piles of trash, which allowed front-end loaders to separate the piles so that crews could extinguish the fire.

The smoke from the fire caused delays on I-270 earlier in the day. The fire department said delays continue to be possible but that the conditions were improving.

Also, the fire department put out a brush fire that involved two box trucks, five cars and a shed. Adams County officials initiated a ban on all open burning because of the dry conditions.
