Football: Adams City wins late

AURORA -- Adams City needed a 31-yard field goal from Humberto Gonzales to beat Aurora Central 24-21 at Aurora Public Schools Stadium Sept. 26.

The Eagles' winning drive started after a 9-yard punt from Aurora Central. Antonio Scott ran five times for 23 yards before Gonzales came on for the game-winning three-pointer.

Adams City still had to survive almost two more minutes after the winning kick. Joseph Gonzales stepped in front of an Aurora Central pass with a minute to play to seal the win.

Adams City is 4-1 entering its first Longs Peak Conference game of the season. The Eagles host Thompson Valley at 7 p.m. Oct. 3. We'll have more on the Aurora Central contest in the Sept. 30 edition of the Commerce City Sentinel Express.
