Free youth mental health first aid class Dec. 5

-A A +A

A free youth metal health first aid course will be offered on Dec. 5 by the Community Reach Center at 11285 Highline Drive in Northglenn. The class will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mental Health First Aid teaches how to recognize symptoms of mental health problems, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate treatments and supportive help. The Youth Mental Health First Aid curriculum covers risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges that are common among adolescents and young adults.

For some parents, the class will provide an opportunity to gain new knowledge before their college students return home for holiday break. The class provides skills in assessing mental wellness and encouraging wellness habits. Research has shown that the training enhances behavioral health literacy, reduces stigma, increases knowledge of professional and self-help resources, increases participants’ confidence helping in crisis situations and improves behavioral health of participants.

The class will be taught by two certified MHFA instructors and is designed for all learning styles. A MHFA manual and supplies will be provided at the class. Please see the MHFA schedule at https://www.communityreachcenter.org/ for more information.
