Fruit, vegetable gardening classes start March 15

The Adams County CSU Extension office is offering three classes this spring for people interested in growing fruits and vegetables. These classes will be held in the meeting room at the Adams County Parks and Extension Building on the Adams County  Fair Grounds, 9755 Henderson Road.

The first class, set for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, is an introduction to vegetable gardening, going over the fundamental steps to starting and maintaining a vegetable garden. Topics will include: Starting a garden, when to plant, when to water, and when to fertilize.

The second class — 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29 — will be an intermediate-level gardening class, exposing students to more advanced topics related to vegetable gardening.  Topics will include:  Soils and soil amendments, drip irrigation, season extending tactics and weed control.

The third class, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, will focus on growing small fruits. Topics will include three to four short talks on growing different small fruits such as grapes, raspberries and strawberries.
