Commerce City police found the vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian early Oct. 4.

It happened around 4:15 a.m. on I-270 near Vasquez Boulevard.

In a press statement late in the afternoon Oct. 4, police said they also identified the driver of the car that was involved. His name hasn't been released. Police also said they aren't looking for other cars or other people in connection with the crash.

The car was heading westbound on the interstate when it struck the pedestrian and did not stop. The victim, an adult male, died at the scene.

Cmdr. Robert Renfrow said the cause of the crash is not known, nor is it known whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

The crash caused big problems for the morning rush hour commoute. The ramp from I-70 to westbound I-270 was closed, as was the ramp from Quebec Street to westbound I-270 and the ramps from Vasquez to I-270. The commute from Aurora to Denver lasted almost 45 minutes at times.

The investigation was ongoing.
