Two schools in the Adams 14 School District were on lockout March 21 after an incident on an elementary school playground.

According to Martin Pearson, the principal at Adams City Middle School, two males tried to speak with children on the playground at Alsup Elementary School. The two are in custody. School officials escorted the youngsters inside. Alsup and ACMS remain on lockout, meaning people cannot leave or enter the school buildings without police approval.

Pearson's letter said students and staff at both schools remained safe inside their buildings. The lockout was lifted shortly before 1:30 p.m.

"I want to thank our students, teachers and staff for following safety protocol, as well as local law enforcement for their active presence in the neighborhood and rapid response to this situation," Pearson said on Facebook.
