Man sentenced to 48 years for wife’s death

A judge sentenced Commerce City resident Derek Michael Johnston to 48 years in prison Thursday, July 26, in connection with his wife’s murder last September.

Commerce City police found Melissa Ehrmann, 38, badly beaten and unresponsive in the couple’s home at 14802 E. 119th Ave. on Sept. 6. The couple’s 19-month-old son also was at home at the time. Ehrmann was taken to University Hospital where she remained unresponsive with no brain function for four weeks until life support was removed on Oct. 6.
