No early damage from July 28 tornado

COMMERCE CITY --  The National Weather Service said two tornadoes touched down near Commerce City July 28. Social media pictures showed some overturned soccer goals at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The weather service posted a tornado warning for southern sections of Commerce City July 28. The warning also applied to Denver International Airport, where authorities whisked passengers to safety for almost a half-hour.


The National Weather Service said two tornadoes were spotted. One was west-southwest of the airport shortly after 4:00 on the southwest side of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge. No damage was reported. The other touched down 8 miles north-northwest of the airport shortly before 4:00.

A tornado touched down in Fort Lupton earlier in the afternoon. Weld County sheriff's deputies reported no damage or injuries.

Forecasters are calling for more heavy rain Tuesday and Wednesday. A flash-flood watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. As much as 2 inches of rain could fall.
