Red light camera gets the green light

Commerce City has a red light camera at East 60th Avenue and U.S. 85 to handle what many call the worst intersection in town.

After years of accidents, violations went down after the red light camera was installed, said Michelle Halstead, director of communications and government affairs. Seven different roads intersect at the red-light camera intersection. It sees an estimated 56,000 vehicles a day.

“Using a red light camera is a safety tool. People aren't running the red light, because they know the camera is there,” Halstead said.
