Sheriff's deputy shooting suspect appears in court

The 22-year-old man accused of murdering an Adams County sheriff's deputy made his first court appearance Jan. 26.

Dreion Martise Dearing is due back in Adams County District Court at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, for the filing of formal charges.

The deputy, Heath Gumm, died Jan. 24 ner Skyview High School in Thornton as he responded to an assault call. Two other suspects are on the run. According to deputies, the two remaining suspects are not connected to the shooting.

Dearing remained in the Adams County Jail without bond.
