  • Application deadline for youth commission is Jan. 9

    The Commerce City Youth Commission is seeking youth and adults to serve as members. The youth commission is an advisory body to city council on issues affecting youth in Commerce City. There are currently 10 openings for youth members and four adult seats available.

    During their two-year term, commission members will work on a youth master plan, attend conferences and trainings, implement projects that benefit the community and create lifelong bonds with youth across the city.

  • Good Luck 4-H Club open house on Jan. 11

    The Good Luck 4-H Club of Adams County is hosting a 4-H Discovery Day open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Good Luck Building on the Adams County Fairgrounds in Henderson.

    All children will be able to experience various projects and be able to ask questions about the 4-H program. Enrollment opportunities will be available.

  • Steffen Hileman graduates basic training

    Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Steffen C. Hileman graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Theater group to perform in Broomfield Dec. 20-21

    The Callback Theater Company will be performing “Jesus, Mary and Joseph!” at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 and 21 at Community of Faith Church in Broomfield. 

    The heartwarming Chrismas comedy is about what happens to Mike, a childrens pastor, as he’s assigned with directing the churches annual Christmas pageant, although he doesn’t like Christmas or children at all. 

  • January programs at Anythink Library

    Microsoft Word Basics

    Wednesday, Jan. 29, 11 a.m. - Noon — Participants will learn how to create, edit, format and save text and image documents in Microsoft Word. Additional topics include inserting page breaks and symbols, and working with headers and footers.

    As the winter chill continues to settle in with its brisk and icy ways, it’s difficult to lose sight of the fact that another year is coming to a close and the natural inclination takes over to take stock of all that’s happened in the preceeding 11 months before Father Time graces us with another year and another 12 months to live, to work, to grow and then reflect again.

  • Christmas tree recycling through Jan. 13

    The county will accept trees  from Adams County residents for recycling from Thursday, Dec. 26, through Monday, Jan. 13, at the Adams County Regional Park and Fairgrounds, 9755 Henderson Road, Brighton 80601. The Regional Park will accept trees daily from sunrise until sunset. Follow signs at the park to the self drop-off site.

    Ornaments, tinsel, garlands, flock, nails and stands must be removed before dropping the trees off. There is a limit of two trees per family.

  • December adoption special in Adams County

    The Adams County Animal Shelter, 10705 Fulton St. in Brighton, is offered a Snowflake Pet Adoption special in December. 

    The adoption fee for any adult dog or cat with full or partial white fur qualifies for 50 percent off. That’s $25 for adult cats and $50 for adult dogs. Cost includes current vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter and a collar.

  • Operation Free Bird set for Saturday, Nov. 23

    The Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky’s Autos and other area businesses and individuals will be assisting those less fortunate for the 10th year in 2013 through Operation Free Bird.
        It is scheduled for Nov. 23 at West 64th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. Operation Free Bird 10 will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 64th Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

  • Shred-a-thon Nov. 2

        The 2013 Shread-a-Thon runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 2, at 7190 Colorado Blvd., Commerce City.
        Proceeds benefit Rampart Search and Rescue, which assists the Adams County Sheriff’s Office with search-and-rescue services. Call 303-288-1535 with questions.
