  • December events at Anythink Commerce City

    Please note that all Anythink libraries and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas. Anythink will also be closing at 3 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 31 and closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, in observance of New Year’s Day.

  • Stroke, osteoporosis screenings Oct. 9

    Zion Lutheran Church, 1400 Skeel St. in Brighton, will host Life Line stroke and osteoporosis screenings on Oct. 9. 

    Stroke is the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of permanent disability. 

    Preventive ultrasound screenings can help you avoid a stroke; screenings are fast, noninvasive, painless, affordable and convenient.

  • RTD North Metro Rail Line meetings Sept. 24-25

    The RTD North Metro Rail Line team will be holding two public meetings later this month to review design status, show station designs and receive input. The meetings are set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Anythink Thornton, 5877 E. 120th Ave. in Thornton, and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Commerce City Rec Center, 6060 E.   • Commerce City residents sought to serve on capital improvement projects committee

    COMMERCE CITY — The city is seeking Commerce City residents to serve on its newly formed Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Citizen Advisory Committee. Members will advise the city on matters relating to the implementation of voter-approved Ballot Issue 2K.

  • Designs, timeline unveiled for planned Suncor Boys & Girls Club

    COMMERCE CITY — With fundraising efforts for the project still underway, members of City Council and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver announced designs for the new Suncor Boys & Girls Club in Commerce City last week.

    The announcement was made May 13 at the Commerce City Recreation Center.

    Groundbreaking for the new facility is expected later this year, and officials say the capital campaign has raised 92 percent of its $4.6-million goal for completion.

  • Fruit, vegetable gardening classes start March 15

    The Adams County CSU Extension office is offering three classes this spring for people interested in growing fruits and vegetables. These classes will be held in the meeting room at the Adams County Parks and Extension Building on the Adams County  Fair Grounds, 9755 Henderson Road.

  • Nominations sought for grand marshals of Commerce City Memorial Day Parade

    COMMERCE CITY — Commerce City is soliciting grand marshal nominations for the 50th anniversary of the city’s Memorial Day Parade.

    This year’s annual event begins at 10 a.m. Monday, May, 26, in the heart of Commerce City. Billed as the largest parade in the state and one of the largest in the country, more than 10,000 people regularly attend, with 130 entries that stretch approximately four miles.

  • Barr Lake to host second bald eagle festival Feb. 8

    In mid-February, bald eagles lay one to three eggs.  The parents take turns incubating the eggs.  If all goes well, eaglets hatch in late March.

  • Still time to register for Adams County Fair Royalty contestants; deadline is Feb. 17

    BRIGHTON — There’s still time for potential Adams County Fair royalty contestants to register for the  2014 Adams County Fair Lady-in-Waiting competition, which will take place on March 8 at the Adams County Regional Park Complex, 9755 Henderson Road in Brighton.

    The deadline to register is Feb. 17.

    According to Fair Co-Manager Mary Willis, the Lady-in-Waiting helps represent and promote the Adams County Fair year round.
