  • Adams County is one step closer to its planned government center this week as financing needed for the center’s construction was successfully raised.

        The new government center will be built at 124th Avenue and Sable Boulevard in Brighton. More than $94 million was obtained for this capital improvement from a sale-leaseback transaction. The net interest cost of the transaction was 4.85 percent. 

  •     During the first few evenings of 2009, Jupiter and Mercury were paired low in the southwestern sky. Jupiter was low on the horizon, but shining at a respectable magnitude of -1.9, which made it easy to spot. Just above Jupiter and to the left was be Mercury, the closest planet to the sun. It was almost three times dimmer than Jupiter, shining at a magnitude of -0.7.

        On Jan. 4, Mercury was as high in the southwestern sky as it will get this month. By Jan. 20, Mercury was no longer be above the horizon for viewers to see.

  • Zaragoza-Dominguez

        Jessica Zaragoza and Jaime Morfin are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Josiah Zaragoza-Dominguez.

        Josiah was born Dec. 28, 2008, at Platte Valley Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and measured 20 1/2 inches.

        Josiah’s grandparents are Felipe Zaragoza, Cecilia Dominguez, Jesus Morfin and Angelica Ramirez.

    New Year’s Eve dance

        The Knights of Columbus hosts its annual New Year’s Eve dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1096 E. Bridge St. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and the dance is from 7:30 to 1 a.m. Dinner is roast beef or salmon with salad bar, shrimp cocktail, dessert with favors and snacks. The cost is $27 per person for dinner and dance and $12 for the dance. John Fritzler and the Polka Band will provide the entertainment.     Community Christmas Concert

        Singers from the Brighton area are invited to participate in the 2008 Community Christmas Concert. Rehearsals are from 7 to 8 p.m., every Sunday evening until Dec. 7 at First Presbyterian Church, 510 S. 27th Ave. The concert is from 3 to 6 p.m., Dec. 7. Call 303-659-3607 for information.

  • Elizabeth Ann Egger and Shaun Matthew Callaway were married Oct. 18, 2008, at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Greeley. A reception followed at Aims Corporate Education Center. 

        Egger is the daughter of Rick and Frances Egger, of Herington, Kan.  She graduated from Herington High School in 1998 and she is a graduate of Emporia State University and the University of Wyoming.  She is an accountant in Denver.

        Gabriella Riquelme and Javier Cruz, announce the birth of their son, Javier Felipe Cruz Riquelme.

        Javier was born Nov. 15, 2008, at Platte Valley Medical Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

        Javier’s grandparents are Felipe Riquelme Alarcon, Paula Diaz Manjarrez, Armando Vera Rubio, and Maria De Los Delores Perez.

        Javier joins siblings Yahir, 6, and Keyren, 8, at home.


  • Machuca-Salazar

    Brandy Machuca-Salazar, and Anthony Salazar, of Commerce City, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Josie Angela Machuca-Salazar.

    Josie was born Oct. 27, 2008, at Platte Valley Medical Center. She weighed 6 pounds, 7 ½ ounces, and measured 18 ¼ inches.

    Josie’s grandparents are Karen and Gilbert Machuca, of Hammond, Indiana, and Dolores and Robert Salazar, of Commerce City.

    Josie joins brothers, Michael, 12, and Xavier, 10, at home.
