    Greater Brighton Chamber of Commerce Director Holly Hansen resigned recently, after discrepancies were found during a financial audit, according to the board’s Chairman Larry Barnaby.

    The Greater Brighton Chamber has Commerce City companies as members. 

  • City approves gas station plan at I-76, Bromley

    A sleek, modern-looking Kum & Go gas station and convenience store is planned to be built near Interstate 76 and Bromley Lane after the Brighton City Council approved construction plans for it Tuesday, Dec. 20.

    The gas station is planned for 5.2 acres of the vacant 8.1-acre parcel of land. The other 2.85 acres to the south is planned for office, medical or business use.

  • Construction planned at former Mile High park in 2017

    Construction on infrastructure is expected to start in 2017 at the former Mile High Greyhound Park at the southwest corner of Holly Street and East 64th Avenue.

    Officials want some sort of education campus, a hotel, shops, apartments and homes to be built on the 65-acre site. City staffers continue to meet with developers to discuss planned uses at the site, according to recent Commerce City news releases.

  • Vestas named No. 2 in the country

    Vestas Wind Systems, the Denmark-based wind turbine company that produces equipment in Brighton and Windsor, is the second largest wind power producer in the country, according to a recent report by the Energy Information Administration.

    The industry group recently started collecting data on wind turbine manufacturers, turbine models, and other wind plant attributes in its annual Electric Generator Report.

  • Commerce City starts chamber

    New chamber of commerce organizer Michael Scanlon has lived and worked in Commerce City since 2009.

    He said he chose the city, and especially the Reunion neighborhood, over anywhere else in the region.

    But until now, Scanlon said he hasn’t been able to be part of a chamber of commerce, since the city hasn’t had its own.

    He holds a shovel upside-down, just above the neck of the blade, with a pop bottle rocket notched into the other end of the wooden handle. He lights the fuse, holds out his arm and with a hiss and a puff of smoke, the firecracker launches out above the crops. It explodes with a sharp crack, scaring off a cluster of blackbirds nestled in the field. 

    “This isn’t what I do every day,” Petrocco said, smiling.

    The Nexus at DIA development is ready to take off.

    McLane Foodservice Inc. announced recently that it would build a 250,000-square-foot facility just northwest of Pena Boulevard and Tower Road in the Nexus at DIA development, adjacent to Denver International Airport.
