There were some things that weren’t typical about the March 13 blizzard. The winds were ferocious. They gusted to 80 mph at Denver International Airport at times. The combination of wind and snow caused several multi-car pileups and the closure of I-76 between Brighton and the Nebraska line for almost a day. Adams 14 schools were closed for three days. They reopened March 18. The owner left his car on the side of Tower Road near the airport because the conditions were not safe to travel.

The “bomb cyclone” snowstorm that hit Colorado last week certainly made an impact, causing massive accidents on major highways and shutting down most schools and government buildings in Northern Colorado. With local governments forced to take the bulk of responsibility for preparing for and responding to major weather events like this, it had some of our readers wondering: how does the city prepare for snowstorms?
