Hunter’s class adopted 36 Marines, ages 18 to 36, serving in Iraq. The students have been exchanging letters with the troops each month and holiday since last fall.

  • More than a mop and bucket

Ask anyone at West Ridge Elementary to tell you a little bit about school custodian Jerry Williams, and there is a similar response no matter who you talk to.

“He’s awesome,” is the phrase repeated by students, teachers and staff alike.

West Ridge Principal Will Pierce said Williams goes above and beyond each and every day on the job.

  • Making a difference

“You think all of our stuff’s going to fit in there?” Landmark Academy Charter School Admissions Representative Heather Teague asked a group of students as a moving truck pulled up in front of the school Monday morning.

Students at the K-7 school collected more than 2,000 supplies and food items that were taken to The Gathering Place, Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women and children who are experiencing homelessness and poverty in the city.
