  • Garcia takes third at state wrestling

    DENVER -- Prairie View's Gilbert Garcia bounced back from a tough loss in the quarterfinals to take third at 112 pounds of the state 4A wrestling tournament at Pepsi Center Saturday.

    Garcia had to win four straight matches in the consolation draw in order to take third. His last win was a 6-2 decision against Wheat Ridge's Swanson Saturday afternoon.

  • Police search for kidnapping victim

    COMMERCE CITY – Commerce City police, Brighton police and Adams County sheriff's deputies are searching for man who may have kidnapped a woman Monday afternoon near 112th Avenue and U.S. Highway 85.

    Details are sketchy. Police said the man drugged the woman, then hauled her into a gray Kia. The car was last seen near 112th and Brighton Road around 12:45 p.m. The woman may have been hanging out the window.

    Police do not have a license plate on the Kia. Anyone with information should call 303-288-1535.

  • One dies in rush-hour rollver

    COMMERCE CITY -- One person died in a rollover accident at U.S. Highway 85 and 112th Avenue Friday morning. The person's name has not been released.

    The car rolled off the east side of the highway. Details of the accident were not immediately clear, though television pictures appeared to show that the car was split in half as a result of the accident..

    Traffic was rerouted along 112th Avenue east of the accident scene. Interstate 76 was also an alternate route while police continued an on-scene investigation.

  • Denver man dies in one-car accident

    ADAMS COUNTY – A 26-year-old Denver man was killed in a one-car accident late Thursday night. Authorities said the man's name was Jorge A. Martinez-Ruvalcalba.

    The incident happened on York Street at Interstate 76 shortly after 11:30 p.m. Troopers said Ruvalcalba's sedan was heading east on the freeway when it went off the road, hit an overpass support column on York Street and came to rest.

    Troopers were continuing their investigation.

  • One dead after U.S. 85 crash

    COMMERCE CITY ee* Police have yet to identify the man killed in a collision this morning on U.S. Highway 85.

    According to Commerce City Police, the accident happened about 7 a.m. at the intersection of East 112th Avenue and U.S. Highway 85 when an Ford F-350 truck traveling north on Highway 85 collided head on with a Pontiac Vibe attempting to make a left urn onto eastbound 112th Avenue.

  • Adams City student honored for community service

    For the second time in as many years, an Adams City High School student is a recipient of the 9News Kids Who Care Award.

        ACHS senior Peter Montoya took part in the 15th annual ceremony Feb. 7 honoring kids who go beyond the call of duty in service to their communities.  Along with eight other students, Montoya was given this award to go along with a number of other awards he has received for his role not only as a student leader but a community leader in Commerce City and Adams County.

    BRIGHTON – Bus riders blamed RTD for low ridership on a popular bus route to Denver International Airport slated to be discontinued as part of the transportation district’s budget cuts.

  • Traffic stop leads to pot bust

    KEARNEY, NE – It started as a traffic stop for an alleged speeding violation along Interstate 80 near here.

    It ended with the arrest of two people, including a Commerce City resident, and the seizure of 80 pounds of marijuana.
