  • Hoopes for Adams County Commissioner

    Editor:
As the time for the primary balloting draws near for Adams County candidates, I am writing to ask a special favor of my many Republican friends. Please mark your ballots for Kaarl Hoopes for District 1 Adams County Commissioner.

  • The Colonel kills the rainforest

    Editor:
I have loved Kentucky Fried Chicken for more than 50 years now. However, I have learned the disturbing news that much of the material used to make KFC’s throw-away containers is obtained from rainforest trees, some of which are in critical areas. In effect, KFC supports the destruction of rainforest which not only acts as an oxygen-producer for us all, but which also is the habitat of critically endangered tigers in Indonesia.

  • Role models are everywhere

    Editor:
I very much enjoyed the article that appeared recently in your paper regarding female role models written by Al Jacobson of Commerce City (“Role models shouldn’t be chosen by gender,” May 15). I was reminded that role models are everywhere and are sometimes found in the most unexpected places. I look forward to Mr. Jacobson’s future columns.

  • Jacobson reaffirms how I feel as a parent

    Editor:
I was very much impressed by this article (Al Jacobson: “Role models shouldn’t be chosen by gender,” May 15). It made me feel like I was doing a good job as a parent.  Thank you for publishing Al Jacobson’s article. He has a wonderful way with words and he made me appreciate myself has a parent.  Please publish more by this man. He has a great outlook on our life and times.
Thank you for your time and effort.

  • Cancer research study part of Relay for Life

    Editor,
What if we could personally participate in research that might help determine factors that cause or prevent cancer? What if our involvement, and that research, ultimately leads to the elimination of cancer as a major health problem for this and future generations? What if we could make it so just one family never has to hear the words “you have cancer”?

  • Doing more with less is old for teacher

    Editor,
As a third-grade teacher in the 27J school district, I am committed to the students of School District 27J and their families who entrust me with their children each and every day. I do my best every day to educate them. But over the last three years I have had less time, a larger class size and fewer resources to achieve that goal.

  • Petrocco for 27J board

    Editor,
As both a senior citizen and a parent with two children in Brighton schools, I have had the opportunity to work with Donna Petrocco through the Brighton Boys & Girls Club and other community activities.
Donna brings not only a compassion for all children in the community but a strong business ethic to maximize the financial needs of 27J.
In these tough times we need someone with her compassion and business strength on the 27J board.

  • Trend makes her vote yes on mill levy override

    Editor,
I am a business owner in Brighton, and I want to tell you why I am voting yes on the mill levy override. I have numerous professional contacts in Brighton as well as our neighboring communities. During our discussions, I have begun to notice a concerning trend.
