  • Younger hangs up coaching whistle after 20-plus years

    BRIGHTON – Eagle Ridge Academy’s Bob Younger was known to walk to the opposing team’s bench, ask for a bottle of water and then ask that team’s coach if things were as crazy in the game as they seemed for him.

    He was the coach who arranged for a pair of glasses and contact lenses for one of his players who was from a single family. 

  • State 5A wrestling: Eagles' Gavin Deaguero takes third at 152 pounds

    DENVER – Adams City's Gavin Deaguero finished third at 152 pounds at this year's state 5A wrestling tournament at Pepsi Center.

    Deaguero lost just once in the tournament, a quarterfinal defeat at the hands of Gabriel Dinnette of Lakewood. After that match, Deaguero won four straight, including a 6-3 decision over Broomfield's Preston Renner for the third-place trophy.

  • State 5A wrestling: J. Deaguero loses in semifinals

    DENVER – Coronado's Kj Kearns nipped Adams City's Josh Deaguero 3-2 in the 138-pound semifinals at the state wrestling tournament at Pepsi Center Feb. 17.

    The match was tied 2-2 when the third period ended. But the officials ruled that Deaguero clasped his hands, which awarded the winning point to Kearns.

    Deaguero was the only Eagles' wrestler to make it to the semifinals.

  • State 5A wrestling: Eagles put five in the quarterfinals

    DENVER – By the time the opening round of the state 5A wrestling tournament wrapped up at Pepsi Center Feb. 16, five Adams City wrestlers had moved into the quarterfinal rounds.

    Noah Vigil (113 pounds) earned a 11-2, major decision win over Aiden Quinn of Monarch. He faces Adrian Marquez of Castle View next. At 138 pounds, Joshua Deaguero pinned Dakota Key of Legacy in 5:03 of their first-round match. Deaguero gets Arvada West's Estevan Maldonado in the quarterfinals.

  • Trinidad State lands ACHS’ Ordaz for more soccer

    Adams City’s Jonathan Ordaz wanted a place to hone his soccer skills and to continue his education. 

    Trinidad State Junior College has just the program in Ordaz’s eyes.

    Ordaz signed his letter of intent Feb. 2 at a ceremony at the high school.

  • State 5A wrestling brackets released

    AURORA – Here are Adams City's first-round pairings in the state 5A wrestling tournament. It starts at 7;15 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16, at Pepsi Center.

    113: Noah Vigil (ACHS) vs. Aidan Quinn (Monarch)

    120: Blake Reichel (ACHS) vs. Angel Flores (Coronado)

    126: Nicholas Gonzales (ACHS) vs. Cory Fatzinger (Arvada West)

    138: Josh Deaguero (ACHS) vs. Dakota Key (Legacy)

    145: Marques Salazar (145) vs. David Bekkedahl (Poudre)

    152: Gavin Deaguero (ACHS) vs. Brian Hodes (Regis)

  • Wrestling: Adams City sends ten to state meet

    AURORA – Adams City’s Noah Vigil had no complaints about his performance at the class 5A, Region 3 wrestling tournament at Cherokee Trail High School.

    Vigil needed about 6 ½ minutes of mat time to pin his three opponents, to win a regional championship at 113 pounds and to secure a spot in this week’s stat3 5A wrestling tournament at Pepsi Center.

  • Eagles place sixth @ EMAC swim meet


    AURORA – Adams City's swimming team placed sixth in this year's Eastern
    Metro Athletic Conference meet at Gateway High School. The two-day meet
    concluded Feb. 4.

  • Wrestling: Eagles take second at EMAC tournament

    Adams City High School, ranked sixth in the most recent On the Mat Magazine poll in class 5A, finished second in this year's Eastern Metro Athletic Conference tournament on the Eagles' mats.
