  • PVHS soccer fundraiser

Prairie View’s girls soccer team is hosting a breakfast fundraiser at the Chili’s Restaurant, 2211 Prairie Center Parkway, from 8 to 10 a.m., March 19.

The cost is $10. The team hosts Gateway at noon. Call 303-655-8956.

  • PVHS lands all-conference wrestlers

Four members of the Prairie View wrestling team earned all-conference citations this season.
They were Isaiah O’Dorisio (first team at 140 pounds), Scott Chalmers (second team at 145 pounds), John Becker (honorable mention at 112 pounds) and Ricky Becker (honorable mention at 119 pounds).
O’Dorisio and both Beckers qualified for the recent state tournament at Pepsi Center.

  • Wrestling camp targets top-flight grapplers

FORT COLLINS – State wrestling titles are one thing. But Rich Estrella, the head coach of the Air Force Academy wrestling program and former U.S. Olympic coach, thinks those state champions could be national collegiate championships.
Consequently, the Pinnacle Performance School of Wrestling is opening up shop at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins and at Palmer Ridge High School in Colorado Springs the week of March 21.

  • ThunderHawks welcome back veterans, add depth for 2011

HENDERSON – Prairie View girls soccer coach Jason Oulman likes what’s on tap for his ThunderHawks team in 2011,
For one thing, no one graduated from last year’s team. That means such players as Madison Kilburn (the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals a year ago), Jasmine Contreras (who scored nine times in 2010) and Daly Miller and Bree Sarkisian (each of whom had seven tallies) are back.

  • Eagles soar over Lady Hawks

After halftime, the PVHS Lady ThunderHawks returned to the hardwoods with intent; intent on stopping 6’1” Lauren Huggins and on running a smoother offensive attack of their own. Their efforts were rewarded as they outscored the visiting Eagles. But it was already too late for the ‘Hawks as Heritage rolled to a 65-51 post season-ending victory.

  • A change in positions suits McNeal just fine

HENDERSON – A year ago, Prairie View’s Ronell McNeal played forward for the ThunderHawks. He led the team in steals, he averaged about 7.5 points per game and about two assists per game.
When the season ended Feb. 23 after a 58-44 loss to Fariview in the first round of the state 5A basketball playoffs, McNeal was again the team leader in steals (80) and assists (almost three per contest). He also averaged almost 12 points per game – all from a new position.

  • Heritage ousts Prairie View from state 5A girls basketball tournament

HENDERSON -- Heritage outscored Prairie View 21-9 in the second quarter and went on to a 65-51 win against the ThunderHawks Friday night in the second round of the state 5A girls basketball tournament.

Lauren Higgins scored 21 points for the Eagles. Emma Castleton pitched in with 16. No stats were available for Prairie View.

  • Three qualifiers, no placers for ThunderHawks wrestlers
  • PVHS boys team bounced from state basketball playoffs

HENDERSON -- Even though Prairie View had a higher seed in the class 5A boys basketball tournament, ThunderHawks coach Tim DeBerry knew his team was in for a tough first-round match against Fairview Feb. 23.

The Knights played in the state title game each of the past two seasons, and they showed it.

Led by 18 points from Bryce Dolan -- including 13 of the first 18 points of the game -- the Knights dispatched Prairie View 58-44 in Henderson and ended the ThunderHawks' season.

  • PVHS girls team hosts second-round state playoff game Friday

AURORA -- Prairie View High School, winners of the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference girls basketball title, has a clearer idea of who will come to town Friday night in the second round of the state 5A basketball tournament.

The ThunderHawks (18-4) will face Heritage (15-9) at 7 p.m., Friday, in Henderson. Heritage beat Bear Creek 63-32 in the first round of the playoffs.
